How to post to social media from ChatGPT
ChatGPT is already where a lot of social copy gets written. The gap is the last mile: you copy the text out, log into each platform, and paste it in. Every time. Custom connectors close that gap - here is how.
What a custom connector does
A connector lets ChatGPT call an external service directly. Add a publishing social media MCP server as a connector and ChatGPT can draft a post and then actually publish it - to X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and eight more platforms - or schedule it for later. No code, and with one-click sign-in, no API key to manage.
Step 1: create an account and connect your platforms
Sign up at outstand.so and connect the accounts you want to post to. Free tier included, no card needed. Eight networks work immediately with included Managed Keys.
Step 2: add Outstand as a connector
In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add. Paste the Outstand MCP URL, click connect, and complete the one-click sign-in. ChatGPT receives a scoped, revocable token - it never sees a long-lived key. The exact URL and screenshots are on the ChatGPT social media page.
Step 3: draft and publish in one breath
Now the workflow you already use gains a final step:
- "Draft a launch post for our new pricing and publish it to LinkedIn and X."
- "Turn this blog intro into three tweets and schedule them for this week."
- "How many impressions did yesterday's post get?"
ChatGPT writes as usual, then calls the tools to ship it and hands back the live links.
Is it safe?
The connector gets a scoped access token, not your password, and you can revoke it at any time. You choose which organization and accounts it may act on. Outstand publishes on your behalf; it does not browse or scrape social media for you, and analytics are limited to posts made through Outstand.
