Facebook Video Insights and Cover Images

This release brings deeper analytics for Facebook video content and more control over how your video posts look:

  • Facebook Reels and video analytics: GET /v1/posts/:id/analytics now returns rich video metrics for Facebook posts, including views, average and total watch time, and a retention graph (opt in with ?include=retention). Reels additionally report total plays, replays, and followers gained, while regular videos report an approximate completion rate. Metrics that Meta does not provide come back as null and are listed under platform_specific.unavailable_fields, with raw video details available under platform_specific.video. This works automatically for both new and previously imported posts, with no changes needed on your end.
  • Set a cover image for Facebook video posts: You can now specify videoCoverUrl when creating or updating a Facebook video post to control the thumbnail shown before playback. The URL must be a valid HTTP(S) link and is only accepted for video posts, with clear validation errors if it isn't.
